Mii Tai Obituary (Age 88) Mii was born on September 20, 1923 in Spokane to Hidekichi and Nobui Nishibue. She passed away on September 4, 2012. Mii was a lifelong resident of Spokane who attended Lewis & Clark High School. On March 4, 1945 she married Sumio Tai in Spokane. She worked as a sign maker at the Crescent and then for 18 years at J.C. Penney. She enjoyed faceting, making jewelry, ceramics, water color painting and quilting. She was an avid gardener, starting gardening for sustenance and then for the joy and tranquility. Mii became a Master Gardener through WSU and taught her love of gardening to others. She expanded into growing award winning dahlias and then on to judging at dahlia shows. She was also a volunteer with The Friends of Manito. She is immortalized in her two namesakes: the "Mii Tai" dahlia and the "Skipley Mii Too" dahlia. She passed away peacefully with family present. Mii was a lifelong member of Highland Park Methodist Church, Friends of Manito, Master Gardeners, the Dahlia Society and the Rose Society. Mii was preceded in death by her husband Sumio Tai; sons, Roddy and Terry; brother, Kozo Nishibue; sisters, Kimi Yasui and Atsu Nishibue. She is survived by her son, Alan Tai (Patricia Lovett) of San Francisco; daughters, Kay (Phil) Hodge of Boston, MA, Roberta (Jim) Hasstedt of Bothell, WA, Mindy (Charles Agosti) Tai of Portage, MI; sisters, Saji Kanazawa, Ida Onishi; grandchildren, Philip Hodge (Meghan Perry), Rachel Hodge, Bryan Hasstedt, Marc Hasstedt and Erik Hasstedt; great-granddaughter, Amelia Hodge; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 2:00PM at Rockwood South Hill, 2903 E. 25th Ave. in Spokane.
