Nancy (Davis) Clark Obituary
Nancy of Spokane, WA, passed through the gateway of this life into her heavenly home on July 9, 2010. Nancy was born on February 11, 1925 in Sweet Briar, VA, to James Thomas and Sue Adams Davis. Soon after her birth the family moved to Lynchburg where Nancy and her five siblings grew up. Though Nancy excelled in math at E.C. Glass high school, she chose to study Bible at Bob Jones College in Cleveland, TN. She went with New England Fellowship to Maine where she taught Bible lessons to rural school children. She also taught school in Moneta and Thaxton in Bedford County, Va. Later she joined Wycliffe Bible Translators for service in Mexico, where she met Larry E. Clark of Spokane, WA, whom she married in 1956. They lived in southern Veracruz among the Sayula Popoluca people. After learning their language they prepared a dictionary of Popoluca words, a book of Popoluca folk tales and published linguistic articles that described the language. In 1969 they presented to the people a translation of the New Testament in their own language. Nancy is survived by daughter Rebecca Sue Mogensen and husband James of Berlin, Germany; by two sons James T. Clark and wife Deborah of Spokane, WA, and John H. Clark of San Gabriel, CA; six grandchildren: Jennifer VanEenoo (Matthew) of Seattle, WA, James T. Clark II (Josanna) of Pullman, WA, Joy Clark of Dusseldorf, Germany; Jason Clark, Johnny Clark and Samantha Clark of Alhambra, CA. She is also survived by a brother, James T. Davis, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA, three sisters, Lucy D. Gunn of Williamsburg, VA, Sue D. Breeding and Virginia Clare Wallace, both of Lynchburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Henry A, Davis. Nancy is remembered most for her unselfish service to anyone in need. Her husband eulogized her as a wife of noble character, who watched over her household, was never idle, always kind and patient. Her family admired her, was loved by all who knew her, and will be missed by all. Memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224 at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15. Viewing will be available to the public on Wednesday, July 14, from 8 am to 5 pm, as well as Thursday, July 15, from 8 am to 10 am.
