Nobuko Oka Obituary (Age 97) Nobuko passed away peacefully on December 31, 2016 at Touchmark in Spokane, WA. She was born on November 8, 1919 in Seattle, WA to Tsuto and Fumio Koba. Nobie is survived by her three children Gareth (Betty, deceased) Oka of Spokane, Gwain (Darcy) Oka of Coeur dAlene, ID and Lynn (Tom) Dwyer of Spokane; grandchildren Jeff (Elisia), Jonathan (Marisa), Joseph, Jesse (Michelle), Jay (deceased), Layton, Christina, Jaylyn; brother Masao Mas Koba; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Tsuto and Fumio; husband Keith Oka; sister Haruko (Spring) Kido and brother Teruo (Ham) Koba. Nobie graduated from Broadway High School in Seattle, WA. While attending Edison Vocational where she took tailoring classes, Nobie met art student Keith. She was interned at Minidoka, ID at the start of WWII and was released in 1943 to join and marry Keith in Spokane. There she raised her family and worked in periodicals for 25 years at the Spokane Public Library downtown. Nobie was a member of the Spokane Garden Club, Indian Canyon Ladies Club (hole-in-one #11), Bowling League, and supported the Spokane Water Color Society, which Keith helped establish. Nobie enjoyed sewing, cooking and was well known for her finger jello, coffee candy and bourbon balls. She faithfully remembered friends and familys special events by sending a card with a handwritten note. The family would like to thank her caregivers Linda Crowe and Kelly Juliano, as well as Medina and Rick from Hospice House and the Touchmark staff for all their wonderful care. Please join us for a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S Garfield St, Spokane, WA 99202. Contributions can be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church. Her life reflected how to treat others with kindness and respect.
