Oliver Merton "Ollie" Cavens Obituary (Age 88) Oliver "Ollie" Cavens passed away peacefully in his home on August 7, 2017. He was born in Everett, WA to Roscoe and Ermyn (Adkins) Cavens on February 5, 1929. Ollie grew up in and around Colville, WA. He loved the great outdoors and fully availed himself of it and its natural beauty all his life. But more than a lover of nature, Ollie was a lover of people. No one was a stranger to Ollie and he spent his entire life making and maintaining friendships. Whether it was working with young people as a church youth leader, in the classroom as a teacher, gathering with old friends or interacting with the wait staff at his favorite restaurants, Ollie made the people around him feel special like they were the absolute center of his universe. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, built and maintained cabins at Camp Cross, did repair and remodeling work for the St. Johns and St. Davids churches, and was often found cutting down errant trees, repairing someones plumbing, or making a piece of jewelry or furniture for someone. Ollie is survived by his sister Ruth Langford, son, Jim Cavens and wife Nancy, son Don Cavens and wife Suzanne, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, August 12, 2017, at St. David's Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., Spokane, WA 99208. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Habitat for Humanity or a favorite charity.
