July 20, 1912 - July 28, 2010

Ona E. Kittel Obituary (Age 98) Ona Elnora Kittel of Spokane entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior on July 28th, 2010, one week after her 98th birthday. She was born in Ritzville WA, July 20, 1912 to Fred and Anna Luiten. After high school graduation, she attended Cheney Normal School, now Eastern Washington University. In 1937 Ona married Charles Kittel, also of Ritzville. They first lived in Vancouver, WA where Charles taught school and coached. They moved to Brewster, WA in 1944 and lived there until 1976. While in Brewster, Ona was a homemaker, worked seasonally in the apple industry and, in later years, worked as a bookkeeper at the Brewster Medical Clinic. After Charles died in 1975, Ona moved to Ritzville to live with her widowed mother for a short time and then to Pasco to live with her sister and brother-in-law. Following the death of her brother-in-law, both she and her sister moved to Spokane in 1984 where she has resided until the time of her passing. Ona was skilled at needle handiwork, including cross-stitch, embroidery, and knitting and left many legacy items to her children, grandchildren and great-children. She loved gardening, bowling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching the Seattle Mariners. She is survived by her two children, Karren Wright (Jay) of Sacramento, CA and Dr. John Kittel (Gerry) of Spokane, grandchildren Jill Mahurin, Christian Wright, Jennifer Work, Jessica Brownlee, Jacqueline Dawson, Jodi Kittel and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother-in-law Howard Kittel of Bellingham, and her nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at the NorthPointe Retirement Center, as well as Hospice of Spokane, for their wonderful compassion and excellent care. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date. Memorial gifts may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7307 N. Nevada, Spokane, 99208, where she served as a volunteer and was a member for many years.
