Patricia J. "Pat" Howell Obituary A celebration of life will take place for Patricia (Pat) J. Howell at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010, in the chapel of the Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way in Spokane. Pat Howell, a Spokane resident for the past 37 years, passed away after a short, but courageous fight against cancer, on September 9, 2010, in Chehalis, Washington, where she briefly lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Born July 31, 1929, in Laramie, Wyoming, Pat was the second to the youngest of Heber and Evelyn Jackson's six children. Her siblings, Evelyn Lutz, Katherine Cameron, Louis (Bud) Jackson, Richard Jackson and Burkett Jackson - all of Wyoming - preceded her in death. Pat married Clifford (Dean) Howell on May 28, 1950, in Laramie, and was married 43 years until Dean passed away July 6, 1993. They met in Pocatello, Idaho, when they lived next door to each other - Pat lived with her aunt and Dean with his uncle. She worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company, but quit working for awhile to devote her time as a mother and homemaker. Pat, Dean, and their two children - Donna and Dale - lived in Twin Falls and Pocatello, Idaho; San Diego and Castro Valley, Calif.; and finally, Spokane, Wash. In 1975, Pat returned to work for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company (later becoming Qwest Communications) in Spokane, and retired from Qwest in 1996. After retirement, Pat worked part-time as an usher for Crowd Control Management in Spokane and quickly became an avid fan of University of Gonzaga basketball after working as an usher at some of the games. She was an avid fan of all sports and especially loved watching her grandson and granddaughter compete athletically. She seldom missed watching a Mariner's game on the television. During her life, she also enjoyed bowling, gardening, and being with her family. Pat is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tom Zuber, Chehalis, Wash.; her son, Dale Howell, Pasco, Wash.; a granddaughter, Callie Zuber, Bellevue, Wash.; a grandson, Cameron Zuber, Spokane; a special niece, Diane Lazzarino, Lawrence, Kans.; a special nephew and his wife, Lee and Judy Larson, Prairie Village, Kans.; many nieces and nephews in Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, and California; sister-in-law, Edna Mae Jackson, Laramie; and friends, Al Zuber, Chehalis; June and Bob Managhan and Marilyn Nordlund, all of Spokane. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Patricia Howell to the American Cancer Society , 920 N. Washington St., Suite 200, Spokane WA 99201.
