Philip King Hintz

February 12, 1923 - March 20, 2015

Philip King Hintz Obituary Philip Hintz was born in Spokane, WA to Arnold and Bernice Hintz. He graduated from North Central High School in 1940 and enrolled at the University of Washington, but enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve after the outbreak of World War II. He was activated in 1943, meanwhile also managing to complete his Economics and Business degree at UW. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the USMC in 1945 and served in Guam and Japan through 1946. After the war, he completed his accounting courses at UW and passed his CPA exam and worked briefly in Portland, OR. In 1951 he received his Korean War orders, shortly after his engagement to Ruby. They married and spent the following year in San Francisco where he was promoted to Captain and served as Paymaster in the USMC. Following the war, he worked for an accounting firm in Portland, then returned to Spokane and opened his own practice which he maintained for 32 years. He also taught night school at Kinman Business University for nine years. Phil belonged to the Spokane Chapter of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants and served as president for one year. Phil was an active member of his community, belonging to Toastmaster clubs in both Portland and Spokane as well as the Inland Empire Chamber of Commerce, the Spokane Estate Planning Council and the Optimist Club. He served as treasurer of the Inland Empire Boy Scout Council for ten years. He loved music, attended concerts regularly, and served on the Board of Directors of the Spokane Junior Symphony (Youth Orchestra) for 12 years, including a number of years as president. Phil was also very active in the Northside Church of Christ. He and Ruby were avid world travelers. He lost his beloved wife after 52 years of marriage. In his later years he moved to San Diego to be closer to family. Philip is survived by daughters Sonya and Marcia, and his sister Phyllis, who will always remember his kindness, honesty, and dependability. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane, WA. A Veteran�s graveside service will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
