Phyllis D. Martin-Rudolph Obituary Born Dorothy Phyllis Martin on Christmas Day, 1944 at 11:30pm (because her mother wasnt going to allow another birth to interfere with the rest of the familys Christmas Day activities) at the family home in Garden Springs, Spokane, WA. She was child number eight of ten, born to Nicholas Bone and Jewell M. Martin. Phyl attended Lewis and Clark High School then transferred to Cheney High School graduating in 1963. She was the band president and soloist at her graduation. Phyl was active in Rainbow Girls and served as Worthy Advisor of Love Assembly #148 in Spokane. She was also involved in 4-H for over 12 years and received many blue ribbons at the Spokane Interstate Fair. She attended EWSC, Northwest Christian, and graduated from Bellevue College. On October 1, 1977, Phyl married Richard Rudolph at the Garden Springs Community Church where she attended during her growing up years. From that date forward, she became D. Phyllis Martin-Rudolph (that dash was very important to her). For many years Phyl worked at Frederick and Nelson in Bellevue, honing her culinary skills at the Rhododendron Room. Phyllis and Richard traveled broadly, and lived in Caracas, Venezuela and greater Phoenix, Arizona before returning to Renton, WA in the early 1990s. Phyl loved cooking, reading, good cuisine, reading, political discussions, reading, the club and her family. Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Richard (at home in Renton), step-daughter Chris Rudolph (Kirkland), Sisters Joy Ledgerwood (Spokane), Jean Davies (Port Townsend), Vi Martin (Spokane) and Linda Nicki Bennett (Lake Oswego, OR), adopted sister Mary Ellen Julian (Spokane), many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A few dear friends Phyl wanted to remember and whom she considered family are Carren Peck, Leanne Dickison, Julie Greenwood, Diane Malmoe and Ginny Higgins. Preceding her in death besides her mom and dad, are brothers Virgil, Kenny, Phillip and Bruce Martin, sister Betty Meyers Koch, nephew Michael Meyers and her beloved in-laws, Helen and Harold Rudolph.. A special thank you goes to Host George at the club, to Phyls caregivers, and the staff at Valley Medical Center and Talbot Center in Renton for their kind, thoughtful, caring acts. In her memory, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10 from 12pm to 5pm and Friday, July 11 8am to 1pm. Phyllis life celebration will be on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 2:30pm at Heritage Funeral Home.
