Phyllis Eva Nodland

April 7, 1935 – May 21, 2026

Phyllis Eva Nodland of Spokane, Washington passed away peacefully Thursday, May 21, 2026, at age 91.  She was born April 7, 1935 in Orofino, Idaho to Cora Ellen (Dickenson) Plank and Charles Albert Plank.  She moved from Orofino as a young child and spent the rest of her life in Spokane.

She graduated from Rogers High School and attended business school studying medical transcription.  She spent a long career at Valley General Hospital (aka Valley Hospital and Medical Center) as a medical transcriptionist and medical secretary.

She married Kenneth LaVerne Nodland January 17, 1959, and the couple had three children.  They bought a small acreage in the Spokane Valley and raised livestock, a garden, and a small orchard.

It was with much personal sacrifice that she ensured her three children earned college degrees.

She was very devoted to her nine grandchildren and made it to every event and holiday.  Spending time with her grandchildren was her single greatest joy in life.  She loved to spoil her children and grandchildren with gifts.

She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church (aka Christ Lutheran Church) in the Spokane Valley.  Her other hobbies included gardening in her many flower beds, and nurturing stray animals alongside her own pets.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth L. Nodland and is survived by her three children Timothy B. Nodland (Laura) of Spokane, Tami Lynn (Nodland) Sargent (John) of Bremerton, WA, and Teri Sue (Nodland) Lesmeister (Todd) of College Place, WA, as well as her nine grandchildren Timothy, Michael, (Dessaly), Jeffrey, (Libby), Christopher, Natalie, Nichole, Mark, Mitchell, (Lauren), and Nina and four great grandchildren Travis, Logan, Kaylin, and Kellen.

A memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 North Government Way, Spokane, WA, June 1, 2026, at 1 p.m.
