Phyllis J. DeChenne Obituary Our Mother Phyllis J. DeChenne (Ommie), 90, Spokane, passed away on December 19, 2011 (on our dads birthday) with her family at her side. Mom was born on August 11, 1921 to Eugene and Edna Stephens in Ewan, Washington, where she was raised and met our dad, Lester (Bud) DeChenne. They were married in 1941 and had 5 children. After wheat farming in Ewan (Lamont/St. John area) until 1962, they moved to Spokane. Mom was a "stay at home mom" and loved every minute of it. She was very active with her family and friends, and enjoyed being on the go. Our family shared many camping and fishing trips, playing cards and having get-togethers where mom was always the life of the party. Mom and dad were happily married for 63 1/2 years until dad's passing in 2004. Mom was survived by her sister and brothers, Melba Lockhart (deceased), Vernelle Stephens, Willis (Corky) Stephens, and Jetty Carrick. Her children: Deanna (Don) Frank, Eugene (Angie) DeChenne, Debbie (Dale) Poffenroth, Michele (Dick, deceased) Dahlstrom, and Leslie Gay (Craig) Konshuk. She was the proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Mom had numerous nieces and nephews and wonderful longtime friends that she treasured. Mom loved everyone that came into her life as much as she loved life itself. A Memorial Service will be held on Jan. 7, at 2:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home. A small reception will follow at Heritage. In leau of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to one of Phyllis's favorite charities: Shriners (http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org), Josephs Journey (http://www.josephsjourney.org), Breast Cancer (http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org), Juvenile Diabetes (http://www.jdrf.org/), March of Dimes (http://www.marchofdimes.com), Hamblen Presbyterian Church (http://www.hamblenpres.org/), or the charity of your choice. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Phyllis, please visit our Tree Store.
