Phyllis Jane Bennett Obituary Phyllis Bennett of Veradale, WA, 92, passed away in her sleep on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015. She fractured her hip in a fall at home the day before. She was born November 15, 1922, in Princeton, Mille Lacs Co., Minnesota, the daughter of Charles Ross Creglow and Mayme Opal Davis. She was the youngest of 3 children. Phyllis Jane Creglow and Charles Theron Bennett were married February 14, 1942, in Jackson, Michigan, before he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. They lived in Florida and Georgia during his military training. A B-17 pilot, her husband flew 35 missions, including D-Day, returning from England in January 1945. They moved to Spokane in 1946. Phyllis was raised in a Christian Science home and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Veradale, for many years. Her first two children were stillborn and the third, Tom, lived only 6 days. He is buried in Jackson, Michogam. Chuck and Phyllis adopted a newborn boy in 1948. True to the cliche, a daughter was born to them nine months later. Phyllis, a remarkable seamstress, operated Phyl�s Drapery Shop out of her home from 1959-1982. She made several of the beautiful banners and hangings at Good Shepherd. Chuck and Phyllis built a beautiful home in the hills at Veradale in 1975. Phyllis loved her chihuahua and Great Dane dogs and had pet birds for many years. She was an avid crossword puzzler. Chuck and Phyllis had a tremendous amount of fun in their 73 years together. In later years they traveled to Europe and throughout the US. Survivors include her husband, Lt. Col. Charles Bennett; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Cherie Bennett of Salem, Oregon; daughter and son-in-law, George and Teresa Conrad of Greenacres, WA; sister-in-law, Virginia Creglow of Jackson, Michigan; niece, Christine Crick of Spokane, WA; step-granddaughter, Jill Young of Wilmington, Ohio, and step-grandson, James Conrad of Beaverton, Oregon. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at Advent Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane.
