Phyllis Nettles Obituary (Age 79) Phyllis passed away at Riverview Care Center on Friday September 21, 2012. She was born August 22, 1933 in Peck, ID, the daughter of Walter and Minnie Lacey. She is a graduate of Lewiston High School and Merced Community College in California. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 60 years, CMSAF James W. Nettles (ret.); sister, Reta Leslie Boise (Bruce) of Aberdeen, WA; daughter, Kathy VanPelt of Spokane Valley; son, Michael Nettles (Jeri) of Spokane; daughter, Nancy Lipe (Ed) of Richfield, NC; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Phyllis was an Air Force wife and mother during James' 22 year career, raising her three children in many locations in the US and in Puerto Rico. After James' military retirement in 1972 she had several different careers in real estate, bookkeeping and garden center staff in the Spokane area. She loved gardening and was an adventurous cook. For many years she and James enjoyed RV-ing and their winters in Arizona. Since the 1970s, Phyllis has been very active in the democratic party of Washington serving as past-president of the Jane Jefferson Democratic Women's Club and on the board of the Washington State Federation of Democratic Women. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 26 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Chapel in Spokane. The Family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
