Ray Douglas Hegwer Obituary (Age 87) Ray Douglas Hegwer was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on 15 May 1927 and passed away at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA on 4 Dec. 2014, after battling congestive heart failure. After growing up during the great depression he joined the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, serving with the 1st Marine Division in China. In August 1947 he married Leola Deloris Poole in Elko, NV. They were married for 65 years before Leola�s passing in May 2013. They were active members of the Beacon Hill Ward of the LDS church and were sealed for time and eternity in the LDS Temple in Seattle, WA. Ray and Leola spent time in service in church callings, including a mission at the LDS employment center in Spokane, WA and a mission at the LDS cannery in Spokane, WA. They were also temple workers at the LDS Temples in Seattle and Spokane, WA. In 1954 Ray and Leola moved to Spokane, WA, where they bought a house and raised their family. Ray is preceded in death by his wife Leola and daughters Deloris Thompson and Brenda Hass. He is survived by daughter Lela Berman and husband Paul of Spokane, WA, son Walter Hegwer and wife Florence of Deer Park, WA, and son Howard Hegwer and wife Sue of Bellevue, WA. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 43+ great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 at 11:00 am with viewing at 10:30 am, at the LDS Chapel at 808 E. Sitka Ave., Spokane, WA. Interment will follow the services at Riverside Memorial Park, located at 508 N. Government Way followed by a celebration life gathering with family and friends.
