Raymond Frederick Adamson

Raymond Frederick Adamson Obituary (Age 90) Passed away Monday, January 25, 2010 at Sacred Heart Medical Center with his family at his side. He was born June 27, 1919 to Accum and Florence (Hensen) Adamson in Spokane, WA. He attended Audubon Grade School. The family moved to Lind, WA in Ray's 5th grade where his parents owned and operated the Hotel/Restaurant with the help of sons Frank, Robert and Ray. During his sophomore year at Lind High School he met and started dating Norma. Ray attended WSU in Pullman and EWU in Cheney. Ray entered the U.S. Army in February 1941 at Ft. Lewis, WA. Ray had basic training at Ft. Knox, KY. Before being sent back to Ft. Lewis for further training, Ray and Norma were married June 29, 1941 in Coeur d'Alene, ID, spending 67 years ten months together. Ray's military duties sent him outside of the U.S. from July 1944 to November 1945. He was at the Battle of the Bulge, was under General George Patton and duties in Central Europe. He was awarded several medals during his military duties. He served with the 739th Tank Battalion and was a Sgt. Major. Ray's son Clark was born July 1944 as Ray was being shipped overseas. Upon return to the U.S. Ray and Norma lived in Spokane before he entered into a partnership with his brother Frank in the hotel/restaurant business in Davenport, WA in 1946. Daughter Joyce was born in April 1947. In 1949 the family moved to Deer Park, WA where Ray and Norma owned and operated the Western Auto Hardware Store for 19 years. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Sunrise Point Resort where their trailer was parked for about ten years. In 1969 Ray and Norma moved to Cheney, WA where they belonged to a dance club. Ray worked for Jensen-Byrd Co. of Spokane from 1969 to 1981 when he retired. Ray enjoyed spending their winters in Hemet, CA for about 20 years, meeting many special friends. Ray enjoyed dancing, golfing, fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, playing cards and entertaining friends and family at home. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma in April 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He leaves behind many loved ones: son Clark and wife Judy of Lewiston, ID; daughter Joyce Beitey and companion Bill Keller of Spokane, WA; granddaughter Jacquie Pettet and husband Vern, children MaKayla and Kameron of Colbert, WA; grandson Jeff Beitey and wife Dana, children Felicia and Matthew of Wichita, KS; Ray's step-granddaughter Rachel Stocking and husband Steve, children Dannielle and Cooper of Lewiston, ID; nieces Barbara Sanders and husband Craig; Norma Lu Patterson and husband John; nephews Frank Adamson, Jr and wife Jo; Rob Adamson and wife Jan; Robert Gehres and wife Billie; Scott Adamson and wife Sheila and Kim Adamson, plus several great-nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 12 to 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home with interment in Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
