Richard "Rick" Akins Obituary (Age 50) Passed away at his home in Spokane, February 13, 2011. He was born in Spokane, WA to Joseph and Eunice Akins on March 24, 1960. From an early age Richard had a love for electronics and how they worked. After attending Gonzaga Prep and North Central High School he received several degrees and certificates from Spokane Technical Institute, ITT Tech, and Spokane Community College, often ending up on the honor list for accomplishments. His knowledge took him in several directions in communications, HVAC tech, steam fitting, and computer science and technology. He worked many years at Cox Cable and G&B Property Management, operated his own company Akins HVAC/Mechanical, and lastly was employed at Spokane School District 81 as one of their head technicians. Rich also had a lifetime attraction to Priest Lake where he grew up at his family's cabin. Later in life he would return often to go camping with his kids and friends on the islands. Richard is survived by his parents Eunice Chase, father Joe Sr., and Marilyn Akins (Rich's other mom), Richard's forever best friend Lori Akins, sons Kenneth and Collen Akins, brothers Joe Jr. and Sharon Akins, John and Cathy Akins and Pat and Terri Akins, and one granddaughter. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 26th at Heritage Chapel, with inurnment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
