Robert "Bob" Howard Peterson Obituary
(Age 88) Robert Bob Howard Peterson was born in Pleasant Prairie, Washington on May 2, 1928 and passed away peacefully on November 18, 2016. He left this world with the same grace and dignity that he lived his life.
Bob was the third of four sons of Helmer and Eunice Peterson. His brothers were Harold (Marilyn), Allen (Eleanor), and Richard (Adele) Peterson. He spent his early years in Sandpoint, Idaho and moved with his family when he was 7 years old to Deer Park. Bob spent the remainder of his school years in Deer Park until he graduated in 1946. Upon graduation, Bob moved to Glendive, Montana, and after a few years, returned to the Deer Park area to attend business college. He spent most of his career working for both the Deer Park Lumber Mill and the United States Postal Service. Bob worked as a rural mail carrier for over twenty years.
On July 5, 1956, Bob married Freda Mae Koehler. They were married for 56 years before Freda passed in 2013. The couple had four children: Eugene, Keith, Karen (Todd), and Craig. In addition to his four children, Bob is survived by three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob had many passions in life which included being a fan of the Washington State Cougars teams, the Seattle Mariners, the Seattle Seahawks as well as involvement and interest in education and politics.
Bob was a good man who dedicated his life to the service of others. He was a long-time and active member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer, board member, was on several committees and sang in the choir. He was also passionate about serving his community. He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America (Cub Master), Deer Park Jaycees (Charter Member), PTA, Deer Park Band Boosters and was a member of the Service League at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Bobs service also included over 20 years as a member of the Deer Park School Board and Washington State Education Services District Board.
Bob will always be remembered as a kind and caring man. He is a shining example of how life can be when we put others before ourselves. He will truly be missed by all his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:30 pm at Sunset Chapel within Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W Wellesley Ave, Spokane, WA. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to Hospice of Spokane, 102 W. Rhoades Avenue, Spokane, WA 99208 or the American Heart Association, 140 S. Arthur Street, Suite 610, Spokane, WA 99202.
