Robert "Bob" W. Hayes Obituary (Age 89) Loving brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on December 20, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Robert was born in 1926 in New Boston, Ohio to Tivis and Laura (Wellman) Hayes. He is survived by two sons, David of Spokane, WA, and Jerry of St. Roberts, MO; two grandchildren, Robert and Kenya, both of Spokane, and their children, Remington, Colten, and Ashlynn Chute, and Perry Poppert. Also surviving are brother Lindsey of Akron, OH and sisters Betty Combs and Rose Henson, both of Circleville OH, as well as a number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of sixty years, Betty (Caton) Hayes, brothers Morris and Lon, and sister Dixie. Bob was a WWII Navy veteran, serving as an electrician?s mate and Fireman first class in the Pacific on the USS Indus, an anti-submarine net-laying vessel. After the war, Bob returned to Ohio, married the love of his life, Betty and worked for many years as an ironworker foreman at Interlake Iron Corporation in Jackson, Ohio. He later became a federal prison correctional officer, moved to Springfield, MO in 1966, and then to his final home in Fordland, MO in 1967, where he served as a city council member and later as mayor pro-tem for a short time. A devout Christian, Bob was an active member of many area churches, most recently the New Hope Chapel of Fordland. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His kind heart, generous nature, and loving spirit was well known and respected by all. God?s speed, Bob, and receive the rewards that you so richly deserve. We will all miss you, and remember you fondly and always. Services will be held at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Seymour, MO with burial to follow at Fordland Cemetery.
