Robert C. Sloan Obituary (Age 89) Robert C. Sloan passed away on July 29, 2013, at Hospice House in Spokane, following a recent stay in the home of his daughter Jane Sloan and her husband John Hancock. Mr. Sloan was born in Winfield, Kansas, on August 16, 1923, the son of Felix and Lottie Sloan. He attended Winfield Schools and Kansas University. He joined the Marine Air Corps in 1942, after employment in a Cessna airplane factory. He was commissioned in Corpus Christie, Texas, as a 1st Lieutenant, and served with distinction as a World War II fighter pilot in the Pacific, primarily on Okinawa. Bob married Merrill Neeley of Denmark, South Carolina, in 1946. They spent their early married life in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to Augusta GA, then Atlanta, GA. He is survived by his wife Merrill and four children: Jane Sloan of Spokane, WA; Nancy Burke of Toledo, OH; Jim Sloan of Augusta, GA; and Philip Sloan of Atlanta. Their descendants are 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a revered father figure to Dana Bowden, John Bowers, and Jeffrey Kingdon. Bob was a career stockbroker in Augusta, GA, and won Boy Scouting's highest volunteer award, the Silver Beaver, for an outstanding 17 years of service and leadership. Other volunteerism included Rotary, Sertoma, and the Official Board of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed all card games. Interment will take place at a later date in the Cemetery of Denmark, South Carolina, with services provided by Bethel Park United Methodist Church. � To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Robert, please visit our Tree Store.
