Robert Elliot Mims Obituary The Rev. Robert Elliot Mims, a longtime Washington state pastor, passed away on Jan. 17, 2019 of causes related to old age. He was 96. Rev. Mims died peacefully at Cheney Care Center while holding hands with his wife of 71 years, Katherine Mims, also a resident of the nursing facility. Born July 21, 1922 in Everett, WA, he was the son of the late Dr. Casper and Eunice Mims. Rev. Mims is survived by his wife Katherine; daughter Carolyn Mims of Airway Heights, WA; son Robert Mims Jr., of Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Margaret Yeabsley, of Seattle; two grandchildren, Robert A. Mims, West Valley City, UT, and Brenda Tchoundjo, Towson, MD; and four great-grandchildren. Rev. Mims was proceded in death by sisters Madelyn Foster and Aleph Swanson, also of the Seattle area. Though perhaps best know for his recognized musical wizardry with the banjo (accompanied by Katherine, an accomplished pianist), Rev. Mims had more than 75 years in the ministry as first an evangelist and then pastor with the Assemblies of God fellowship. He was a longtime pastor of the Garden Springs Community Church in west Spokane, from where he retired from fulltime ministry in 1970. A memorial service is being planned for late March, the specific time to be announced later. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to either the Life Services Pregnancy Resource Center & Maternity Home (https://lifeservices.org) or The Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/nca/donate). To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Robert, please visit our Tree Store.
