August 18, 1920 - June 11, 2010

Robert Pierson Reed Obituary Robert Pierson Reed was born August 18, 1920 in Frobisher, Saskatchewan and passed away June 11, 2010 in Spokane, WA. Bob moved to Lignite, North Dakota as a boy and later to Conrad, Montana, eventually following Marguret Barker, whom he met in Valeir, MT during a ladies choice roller skate, to Spokane. The couple married in Coeur d'Alene, ID on Valentine's Day, 1942 and celebrated their 68th anniversary with family this year. Bob served in the Army Air Force during World War II as an airplane mechanic from February 1942 until his Honorable Discharge in November, 1945. Returning to Spokane, he spent most of his working career as a local driver for Consolidated Freight and Garrett, retiring from the latter in 1983. Bob also raised livestock including a variety of milk cows, beef, chickens and hogs. This, along with an abundant garden, kept the growing family well fed. Bob was an elder and deacon at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church where he was an active member for most of his adult life. Many buildings and grounds projects were completed under his leadership and his recycling program raised funds for the first computer in the church office. He was also very involved in Boy Scouts, starting a troop and serving 14 years as a Scout Master. Bob was honored to be in Order of the Arrow and receive the Silver Beaver award and he was selected as a Scout Commissioner, a role he filled for many years. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, crosswords, playing cards and spending time with his family. Bob is survived by his wife, Marguret; sister Ree (Whalen); five children; Dave Reed of Sprague, WA, Rick Reed (Karen) of Zillah, WA, Barbara Brodrick (Larry) and Steve Reed (Cheryl) of Spokane, and Larry Reed (Jane) of Metaline Falls, WA, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Quite a legacy! He was preceded in death by his mother, Flossie Leona Haack; brothers, Lester Reed and Ben Reed and sister, Loy Jorstad. Thanks to Carol and the staff at Candlelight Home for the wonderful care. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:00 at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S Crestline. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
