Roberta Steuart Nelson

Roberta Steuart Nelson Obituary Helen Roberta Steuart was born in Paul, Idaho on Sept. 4, 1924. She passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2016 at the age of 92. She is survived by her two children, Rebecca (Lucke), Spokane and Sam Nelson, Bozeman, MT, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She grew up on Minadoka county farms in southern Idaho and graduated from Heyburn High School in 1942. During WWII she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" on B-17s in California and later moved to Utah to work for the war effort in Clearfield. She met her husband, Orvall, when he was hitchhiking to work. Orvall and Roberta married in 1944. After the war, they moved to Missoula, MT to attend the university. When Orvall graduated, his career took the family to Harlowton, Whitefish, Great Falls, Spokane, and Boise. They travelled extensively through Europe taking military flights and in their retirement years they bought an RV and travelled throughout the United States visiting family and friends. Roberta was a homemaker and librarian at elementary schools in Great Falls and Boise. She was very proud of her Scotch-Irish heritage and her family history during the Civil War. She was artistic and enjoyed music, especially singing. Her faith and church were very important to her and she was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, Nov. 25 at Beautiful Savior, 4320 S. Conklin, Spokane. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Roberta, please visit our Tree Store.
