Rocco "Rocky" Maiola

November 03, 1925 - September 08, 2016

Rocco "Rocky" Maiola Obituary Rocco ?Rocky? Maiola lived a long and full life and peacefully passed away at the age of 90 on September 8, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones. Rocky was born on November 3, 1925 in Claremont, New Hampshire, to Anna and Michael Maiola. He was the youngest of ten siblings, seven sisters and three brothers. Rocky joined The Navy at 17 and served in WWII on a sub-chaser. He later joined the Air Force and served both in Korea and Vietnam. He met the love of his life, Lynda, in 1957 on a blind date. That is where he told her that he would marry her one day. She rolled her eyes and told him he was crazy. They were married later that year and had two children together: Michael and Connie. Rocky and Lynda saw the world together. They had an incredible bond and were absolutely inseparable. After Rocky retired, he owned the Back Door Tavern in Spokane, where he met many life-long friends and made many happy memories. Rocky was preceded in death by his wife Lynda, seven sisters, one brother, and his best friend John Hawley. He was survived by his brother Joe, his brother Tony, his daughter Connie (Mark), his son Mike (Cheryl), his five granddaughters, five great-grandchildren and was delighted that one more great-granddaughter is on the way. Anyone who knew Rocky, gravitated toward his loud laugh, his loyalty, and his passion for life. Rocky loved singing Sinatra, gardening, traveling, cooking his famous Italian food, a good cigar, and most of all he loved his family- and if you were a friend of Rocky?s, you were his family. He touched so many lives with his sweet nature and his kindness toward everyone he met. Those of us who were blessed to know him are forever changed for the better. We will remember the twinkle in his eyes and his contagious smile. He had a special way of making everyone feel loved and he will be very missed. Rocky?s family would like to extend a special thank you to his friends and neighbors for all the support and help over the years as well as a thank you to Glenna and Mary from Hospice of Spokane. A celebration of Rocky?s life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 North Government Way, on Thursday, September 15th at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Spokane and Spokane Guild School.
