Roger Charles Smith

Roger Charles Smith Obituary (Age 80) Passed away peacefully on December 8, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Roger was preceded in death by his son Todd Smith and his brother Denis Smith. Roger was born on September 19, 1935 to Sommers and Flossie Smith in Pasco, WA. His family moved to Wenatchee in 1940, where he graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1953. After High School, Roger made his way to Pullman, and graduated from WSU with a degree in Horticulture in 1957. While at WSU, Roger enrolled in 4 year ROTC program, and went to Officers Candidate School; he went on to serve 25 years in the Army Reserves retiring with the rank of Major. After graduating from WSU, Roger worked as a Regional Salesman for the Chas. Lilly Co., where he traveled all over WA, ID, MT, and OR. He went on to work for Eastern Washington University as a Grounds Superintendent. After spending time at EWU, he moved on to take a sales position with the Wilbur-Ellis Co. where he worked for 25 years, later becoming the Spokane Branch Manager before he retired. After Roger retired, he loved to play golf with friends and family, and volunteering to escort seniors from the Southside Senior Center on many adventures across the United States. He also loved heading South of the border to Mazatl�n, Mexico, and boating on Lake Roosevelt. He always enjoyed going to concerts and listening to the Blues. Roger is survived by his wife Jane Smith; brother Ronald Smith (Ramona); his sons Gregory Smith (Sandy), Scott Smith (Christine Nichols), Roger Lee Smith; stepson Douglas Bell (Angela); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held 11AM Monday January 4, 2016 at Heritage Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Roger Smith Memorial Fund, Southside Senior and Community Center, 3151 E. 27th.
