Rolland Robert Byrne Obituary
"Rollie" passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in Spokane, Washington. Rollie was born in Spokane on November 30, 1955 to Bob and Charleen Byrne. Rollie grew up in Spokane, graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1974 and Gonzaga University with a Teaching Certificate and Physical Education degree in 1983. Rollie played baseball as a catcher and utility man at Gonzaga Prep, Yakima Valley College and Gonzaga University. It was through this sport he formed many lasting friendships. Rollie had a smile that could light up a room. His passion was sports and favorite baseball team was the New York Yankees. His father, Bob, preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Charleen, older brother Dan (Colleen), younger sisters Colleen (Jim), Terry (Dave) and younger brothers Tim and Bob (Roslyn). Rollie is also survived by his seven nieces: Chrissy, Sarah, Katie, Tiffany, Corrina, Sheana and Serena and nephew Tyler as well as various cousins, aunts and uncles. At Rollie's request, a small family Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Michael the Arch Angel Chapel on Gonzaga University Campus on February 28, 2010 with Fr. Craig Hightower, S.J., officiating. Our family would like to say thank you to the many people who showed kindness and compassion to Rollie. He will be missed.
