Ronald H. Goodell

March 27, 1921 - April 15, 2013

Ronald H. Goodell Obituary We are deeply saddened that our father, Ronald H. Goodell, passed on April 15, 2013, following 92 years of a remarkable life. He will be greatly missed. Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Audra (Snedden) Goodell, by his older brother, George Goodell and by his firstborn grandchild, Piper Glyn Goodell. He is survived by son Steven (Timme) and their children Ryan (Christy), and Amber Dunham; daughter Donna Nichols (James) and their children Kyle, and Marissa Zellers (Scott); and son Ron D. (Carm) and children Jamie Freeman (Greg); Erin Clouse (Mark), Autumn, Carley Carlson (Scott), Scott Hall (Nichelle), and Steven Hall (Brandi). Ron was also the proud great grandfather of 12 wonderful children. He was born in Ecorse, Michigan on March 27, 1921, to George and Ollie Goodell, but spent most of his life in Spokane, Washington, where he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. He also attended one year at the University of Washington. Ron was a WWII veteran and proudly served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Tennessee. He grew up loving to box, boat, golf, jog and work out, all of which he did until he was 88. He loved to dance and worked year round on a great tan. Ron was the Meter Shop foreman at Washington Water Power (Avista) for 42 years, turning down an administrative position so that he could continue to work outside. He loved the outdoors and being on or near the water. Ron and Audra built, owned and operated the Shangri-la Motel in Spokane until they sold it in 1972. Early retirement was ideal for Ron and Audra as they wintered 28 years in Mazatlan, Mexico, summered at Loon Lake, Washington, and cruised the San Juan Islands, the lower Puget Sound, and Alaska on their 34 Taiwan Trawler. They enjoyed many Carribbean and Alaskan cruises and travelled overland to British Columbia and Alaska in their RV. But Rons greatest passion was for his wife and children. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved helping others and made friends readily. Aside from his family and wide circle of friends Ron had a passion for beer, maple bars, doublemint gum and chocolate chip cookies. Rons last four years were spent at Riverview Care Center where, again, he made many friends. We will miss our dad, grandpa and great grandpa so much; but, especially, well miss his big smile, great sense of humor and his joy of life! None of us will forget his crazy, fast driving car rides, his helpful hand, his forgiving spirit, and ability to love all of us so much. Ron loved his life and can once again be with the one he cherished most, his true soul mate, Audra. The family wishes to offer our deepest thanks to the incredible staff at Riverview Care Center and to his treasured friend, Jim Boxley. These people were paramount in making Rons final years positive and happy. He experienced quality life because of all of you. Thank you! The children will have a family lakeside memorial this summer to celebrate their parents, Ron and Audra, and their wonderful life together. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Ronald, please visit our Tree Store.
