Ronald W. Aubrey Obituary (Age 87) Ronald passed away in Spokane on March 2, 2014. He is survived by Margery, his wife of 67 years, their sons Clifford, Craig and Keith, and by his older brother Joseph Eugene and family. He is also missed by his daughters-in-law Kim and Annie, his grandchildren Derek, Lacey, Daphne and Forrest, by his great-grandson Dylan, and by numerous relatives, friends, and former colleagues and students. Ronald William Aubrey was born in Spokane on July 26, 1926. The second son of Harold P. and Alice Lindahl Aubrey, Ronald spent his childhood in Spokane and various small towns in eastern Washington, before graduating from Hunters High School. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, was trained as a radio operator-gunner in a Curtiss Helldiver, and assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. The war ended before he saw active service. After his discharge, Ronald married his high school sweetheart, Margery E. Mattison of Hunters. Both attended Eastern Washington College of Education (now Eastern Washington University) in Cheney, where Ronald received his B.A. in 1950. The Aubreys both taught in Spokane and Wapato. After the birth of their sons, and after earning his M.A., Ronald joined the faculty of Ferris High School in Spokane, where he taught mathematics for 17 years. After retiring from Ferris in 1982, Ronald continued to teach at Spokane Community College, until fully retiring from teaching in 2000, after 50 years in the classroom. Ronald also coached high school and little league baseball, and during his retirement lived in Deer Park, and volunteered with the Friends of the Library and Dollars for Scholars there. Among his happiest times were the 30 years spent living on five acres on Wild Rose Prairie, in a house he designed and built himself, which featured beautiful views in every direction. Ronald will be remembered for his warm heart and generosity, his wit, and his gentlemanly bearing. His family gratefully accepts that donations be made in Ronald Aubreys name to Hospice of Spokane (121 S. Arthur, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210), to the Deer Park Friends of the Library (contact Flo Moore, 509-276-7070), and to Deer Park Dollars for Scholars (also contact Flo Moore).
