Roy Erwin Dimond Obituary (Age 90) Roy passed away peacefully at North Idaho Hospice House in Hayden, ID on November 9, 2016. On that day he was released from his failing body to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Roy was born in Spokane, WA to Roy and Phoebe Dimond. In his early years, he lived in the San Marco Apartments where his parents were the building managers. He fondly remembered delivering the newspaper to apartments and offices on his downtown paper route during his boyhood, going by the names of the buildings such as the Peyton and the Paulson Buildings rather than by the addresses. In 1943 he graduated from Lewis & Clark High School and enrolled in Whitworth College. His college career was interrupted when duty to country called. He was accepted into the Navys commissioned officers training program and graduated with a BA in History, major in Naval Science from the University of Washington. His orders for the aircraft carrier USS Boxer followed. After the Navy he returned to Spokane where he worked at International Harvester and re-enrolled at Whitworth where he completed his BA in Economics and Social Sciences. In 1951 Roy was recalled to active duty for the Korean War once again serving on an aircraft carrier, the USS Shangri-La. He returned to Spokane working for both International Harvester and Ralston Purina before joining Whitworth as the Director of Alumni Activities. Finally, Roy began a 29-year career in the hospitality industry beginning as the Director of Sales for the Davenport Hotel. He later enjoyed assignments at other prestigious hotels in Salt Lake City, Denver and Vail. His career took him to many other cities and he soon found a niche acting as Development and Project Manager for hotels under construction. Along the way Roy married Ellen Lochhead with whom he had two sons (Michael and Mark Dimond). He later married Joyce Eagle Foy raising her three children from a previous marriage (Michael Foy, Jeanene Foy, Evelyn Foy Williams), and fathering two children with her (Lisa Dimond Robertson and Kevin Dimond). Both marriages ended in divorce but led to Roy finding the love of his life while on assignment at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City. He and Barbara Astrid Hoglund of Stockholm, Sweden were married in 1973 and celebrated 43 years together this year. Roy is remembered by his children for passing on his love of exploring the country via family road trips. He taught them to slow down and enjoy the scenery, sights and attractions along the way by taking them in slowly and building lasting memories of those precious times together. His family will remember his eye for beauty that lent to him surrounding himself with simple but lovely things. He loved to carefully tend the delicate blooms of his potted plants and outdoor gardens so that they would display to their maximum potential. All will agree that he was a man of great dignity and patriotism. He always demonstrated civility and decorum no matter what the circumstances, harkening back to gentler times almost forgotten. He never spoke poorly of others and demonstrated doing the right thing throughout his life. He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spokane with a deep and abiding love for his Lord Jesus Christ. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara, his children and their spouses, and his grandchildren. He has been preceded in death by his parents, sons Mark Dimond and Michael Foy, and grandson James Dimond. A graveside service will be held at Fairmont Memorial Park at 5200 W. Wellesley in Spokane, WA on Monday, November 14th at 1:00 pm. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Roy, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events NOV 9
