Ruby L. Moland

January 05, 1926 - October 22, 2010

Ruby L. Moland Obituary Ruby was born in Belt, MT to Frank and Edna Merkling in 1926. She spent most of her early childhood in Montana then moved to Metaline Falls, WA. She moved to Spokane in 1945 to attend Sacred Heart School of Nursing. She graduated and married in 1948, and had three daughters, Kristi Lynn (Sprung), Sunni Lee (McNary), and Cheri Dee. In the 1960s, she resumed the career that she loved, nursing. She worked for several years at Deaconess then returned to Sacred Heart. She stayed there for more than 30 years, finally retiring in 2000. Most of those years were spent on 6 South, with cardiac patients, where she worked hard, laughed often, and expected only excellence from herself and those around her. After her retirement, Ruby liked to travel and garden. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her friends and family, especially her two grandchildren, Abe (1988) and Mackee (1991), who she said gave her the best years of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Kristi. She is survived by daughters Sunni and Cheri, son-in-law, Jim McNary; grandchildren, Abe and Mackee; sister, Joy (Lincoln City, OR), and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Cornerstone Court, who gave her care, affection and her daily glass of wine for the last year and a half, and the staff of Sacred Heart, Dr. Shaw, and Dr. Ratti who cared for her so thoughtfully in her last days. Memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association. Visitation will be 8-5 PM Tuesday and 8-1 PM Wednesday at Heritage. A Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Heritage Funeral Home. Plans for a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
