August 19, 1925 - November 11, 2016
Ruth Christella Russell Obituary (Age 91) Ruth went to be with Jesus the morning of November 11, 2016. She was born in Valley, Nebraska on August 19, 1925 to Gertrude and Harry Decker. She had one sister, Agnes, who preceded her to heaven, as well as her husband Claude who died in 2013. Ruth and Agnes were raised as country girls during the depression. Living on the farm, however, they never went hungry. Relatives would come all the way from Omaha to have their moms famous fried chicken and homemade ice cream. These were Ruths favorite foods to the very end! In 1944 at the age of 19, Ruth moved with her parents to Nampa, Idaho. She was employed at JR Simplot Company during the war and later at Nampa State School & Hospital. Ruth married Claude Russell in 1960 and moved to Spokane where he worked at Fairchild Air Force Base. They purchased a lovely home in the Brownes Addition of Spokane where they lived for 47 years. They moved to Fairwood Assisted Living in 2011. Ruth enjoyed reading and keeping up with local and national news. She was a faithful letter-writer to friends and family over the years and also loved to write letters to the editor of the Spokesman-Review. For many years Ruth and Claude were volunteers at The City Gate. Ruth sponsored several children in India over the years through Mission of Mercy. Her most memorable trip was to Israel and several other countries in 1984. Ruth loved animals, especially her dogs: Tag, Jigs, King, Sport, Cricket, Scamper, Smokey and Ella. A special thank you to all of the employees of Fairwood and Horizon for their kind and loving care for Ruth before her passing. There will be a small memorial service held in the Fairwood Assisted Living event center on Friday, November 18th, at 2:00pm. Ice cream and cookies will be served just as Ruth would have loved to share with her family and friends. A private burial service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Ruth asked that any remembrance be donated to The City Gate. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Ruth, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events NOV 11
