Ruth Lewis

Ruth Lewis peacefully left us to join her husband, Delbert Lewis, on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was 91 years young. She was born the fourth of five siblings on April 18, 1933, in Pasco, WA to William and Pearl Cooper. In the 1940’s Ruth moved with her family to Spokane. She attended North Central High School and graduated from there in 1951. While at North Central, Ruth participated in the school’s volleyball team as well as with Future Homemakers of America, and Library Workers.

In Spring of 1954, she met her future husband, Delbert Lewis, while visiting her Aunt Mary in the Morgan Acres Neighborhood. Ruth and Delbert married on April 29, 1955. They had a beautiful marriage and friendship that saw them together for 66 years. During that time, they raised four children.

Ruth worked for the Spokane Credit Bureau, and later at the Northtown Crescent Department Store in the Gift Wrap Department, where she retired. In the 1970’s, she was very active in Boy Scouts of America, as merit badge counselor for several of the merit badges. Ruth loved crafts and sharing her creations with her family and friends. Be it crochet blankets, embroidery, designing clothes for dolls, or making outfits and costumes for her grand and great grandchildren, she always stayed busy expressing her gifted mind and sharing her love for artistry. Her adeptness was always on display, as she entered countless creations into the fair and earned numerous awards for the things she made. Everything she created, she made with love, and it was as if each quilt, dress, doily, and Afghan was her way of telling you how much she cared about you. Creating relaxed her and she would sometimes take it upon herself to grab a crafting book and not stop until she had made everything in that book.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, her husband, Delbert H. Lewis, and her oldest son Darrel Earl Lewis.

She is survived by her children: Glenna Carson, Dale (Denice), Tera, and Paul Lewis. Along with eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, who were always the apple of her eye!
