Ruth V. Hartzell Obituary (Age 92) Ruth passed away peacefully on December 13, 2015 in Spokane Valley. She was born to William and Sadie Reinert on February 3, 1923 in Vesper, KS and was an only child. Ruth was raised on a farm in Vesper, KS and graduated from Vesper High School in 1942. On December 16, 1945 she married Donley "Shorty" Hartzell and they remained in Kansas until 1955 when they moved the family to Eastern Washington. Ruth cooked for hired hands as needed on the family farm. She baked bread and rolls daily and made the best fruit pies ever. Her hobbies included playing pinochle, gardening, painting, knitting, dancing at the senior center and traveling. Ruth moved to Park Place Retirement Center in 1994 after Donley passed away and she lived there the remainder of her life. Ruth was a past member of White Rose Chapter #230, Order of Eastern Star in Spokane and was a member of Ladies Auxiliary in Colville. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Donley. She is survived by her children: Troy Hartzell (Deanna) of Riggins, ID, Sue Razey of Spokane, Kirk Hartzell (Lynn) of Chattaroy, Connie Oviatt (Terry) of Spokane Valley and Kathy Hartmeier (Steve) of Spokane Valley as well as 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home from 10:00AM to 5:00PM. A Funeral Service for Ruth will be held at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley at 10:00AM on Saturday, December 19, 2015.
