Sally J. Hampson

April 06, 1919 - May 16, 2015

Sally J. Hampson Obituary (Age 96) Sally was born in Springfield, MO to John and Lida McCann. She grew up in Springfield and attended Drury College. She played violin with the Springfield Symphony. She met Richard Hampson when he was handsome, young, and in the United States Marine Corps. They married soon afterwards. After the war, they settled in Springfield for a short while, but this was not to be for long. Richard re-enlisted in the U.S. Army and he and Sally traveled the world for many years. They LOVED to dance! Glenn Miller was their band of choice and they would dance all night for 25 cents. They learned how to square dance when stationed in Germany and earned badge after badge dancing all over Europe. At their home on any given Friday night it was Happy Hour with Rick & Sally and the record player was cranking out In the Mood, Tuxedo Junction, and Pennsylvania 6-5000. The evening always ended with the singing of the Marine Corps Hymn. Rick and Sallys last tour of duty was in Seattle, WA at Ft. Lawton. Rick retired in 1962. Sally was employed at North Pacific Banknote Company, and worked for them over 25 years. They made forever friends through Sallys employment, and many of them remained close over the years. They lived in the Seattle area until 1991 and then decided to move to Spokane to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Bill. The love of her life, and dance partner, Rick, passed away in 1995. Sally was an incredible and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and we must mention an amazing friend. Her three daughters, Cathy (West Liberty, OH), Libby (Spokane, WA) and Susan (Inglewood, CA) will have everlasting memories as children and having her an integral part of their lives as adults. Her grandchildren (David, James, Debbie, Brenda, Mary, Glen, John, Bill, Robert, Catherine and Kelly) all have special memories. Her great grandchildren, Harrison, Hayden, Holden, Madison, Samantha, Lilly and Chloe will also remember her. Her grandson, Scott, preceded her in death in 2011. There is special recognition to Sallys son-in-law, Bill, and spouses of her grandchildren Joan, Sarah, Justin, Jennifer, Tom and Melissa. She loved her former son-in-law, Lee Wallace and his wife, Pat, who visited her on a regular basis. A special thank you to the many employees at Touchmark for the care given Sally, especially in her final days and to Hospice of Spokane. A thank you to Sallys church family, St. Stephens Episcopal for all their thoughts, prayers and kindness throughout the years. Another special thank you to her neighbors of Mt. Vernon Place and those who were her neighbors at Touchmark. In July, Rick and Sally will be joined together again as they are interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Medical Lake. Following this ceremony, a private celebration of Sallys life will happen at the home of Bill and Libby Moore. A celebration for Sally will be held at Touchmark On South Hill on June 4 from 3 to 5 p.m. Everyone who knew Sally is welcome. Hors doeuvres and beverages will be served. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Sally, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events MAY 16
