Sam Dee Thompson Obituary Sam Dee Thompson, aka Grandpa Chuck E. Cheese, was 87 when he passed away peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by his family, on the afternoon of January 14, 2016. Sam was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 28, 1928 to Virgil and Alma Thompson. At 19, he met the love his life, Opal, and they got married. They had two sons, Michael and Patrick. Sam is survived by his son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Linda, grandchildren, Amber and Nicholas, and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Breann, Tristan, Samuel, and Evelyn. Sam is well-loved in the Spokane community. He was a man known for his hugs and bringing happiness to children at the two Chuck E. Cheese restaurants he owned. He strived for positivity every day with the hope of always being "in the pink". Sam was a philanthropist and an active member of his local Rotary Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in his memory to the Spokane Guild School and Neuromuscular Center Foundation located at 2118 W. Garland Ave. or online at www.guildschool.org/commemorative-gift. It was a place near and dear to his heart and only serves to emphasize his love for children.
