Samuel "Sam" W Rothwell Obituary Rothwell, Samuel W Samuel W. Rothwell passed away peacefully on June 8, 2022 at the age of 104. Sam was born to Jesse and Esther Rothwell on April 27, 1918 in Viola Idaho. His early years were spent in Viola and Moscow Idaho. Sam moved to Spokane in 1938 and worked at the Davenport Hotel as a banquet staff member and Saraha Hotel as a donut maker before going to work at Boeing in Seattle as a riveter. He married Johanna Taron, who had a daughter, Karen in 1943. He served in the US Army from 1943-1946. Sam and Johanna had three more children, Beverly, Terry and Sandra. In 1950, Sam began his career with the Post Office as a railway mail clerk. He relocated his family to Spokane and continued working for the U.S. Postal Service as clerk and maintenance technician, retiring in 1984, after 34 years. He married Betty Christopher in 1995 and she preceded him in death in 2005. Sam also worked in construction, grocery and cabinet making prior to working for the Postal Service. He was also a professional gardener which led him to invent the Rake-Well Rake by Rothwell. It is a great rake and he was so proud of it. Sam loved the Lord, playing golf, dancing and going to San Diego with Betty for the winter. He loved watching Gonzaga men's basketball, the Mariners, and his favorite color was red. He loved his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren. The grandchildren always went to Grandma and Grandpa's. They played baseball, built snowmen, played in the leaves and spent holidays together. He was a good friend and he was always there to help when someone needed him. Preceded in death by Johanna, wife Betty, son Terry, daughter Karen Pizelo and grandson Chad Burk. Survived by daughters, Beverly (James) Burk of Loon Lake, Sandra (Brad) Parker, son-in-law Mark Pizelo, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The family would like to express gratitude for the exceptional care provided by Horizon Hospice. Services will be held on July 8, 2022 at 11:00 am at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane WA 99224. Interment at a later date.
