Seiko Edamatsu

July 18, 1919 - February 24, 2018

Seiko Edamatsu Obituary (Age 98) Passed away February 24, 2018 at home. Seiko was born July 18, 1919 in Seattle Washington one of eight children. Seiko lived her life filled with love, caring and service to her family, friends, and community. Her remarkable energy and work ethic she credited to her deep devotion to God. It was her love for God and music that led her to sing in church choirs while growing up in Seattle as well as most of her adult life in Spokane. She credited God for pointing her in the right direction in March 1942 in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor when she left Seattle to come alone to find work in Spokane, where He provided her with work for the John E. Blair family. Members of the Blair family assisted her in bringing her parents and sisters from Seattle to Spokane. Besides singing in the choir Seiko volunteered through church activities and served on church boards at Garden Springs Community Church and later at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Her love for children and her concern for their education led Seiko to volunteer and serve as an elected official on the Garden Springs and Cheney School Boards, the Spokane County Board of Education, other united school groups, and on the PTA. Seiko was an optimistic and positive person. Even weeks before her death, she continued to comment how good it was to be aliveand kicking. She expressed sympathy for people in assisted living facilities who no longer felt they had a reason to be alive. Up to the end she demonstrated a spirit of humility, gratitude, a sense of humor and a quick wit. She considered herself fortunate and expressed gratitude for her church family when she learned they were praying for her. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 South Garfield, Spokane WA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church or Hospice of Spokane or Providence Adult Day Health (6018 N. Astor, Spokane WA 99208). Seiko is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Edamatsu (Dover DE), Patricia Cooper (Pasco/Spokane), Pam Schierman (Dan, Spokane) and Priscilla Edamatsu (Kirkland WA). She was predeceased by her husband Eddie, her parents, five brothers and two sisters. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Seiko, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events FEB 24
