Sharon Alice (Smith) Anderson Obituary Sharon Alice (Smith) Anderson was born in 1938 in Spokane to Bill and Hazel Smith. During her childhood she loved spending time with her neighborhood friends at Byrnes Park. Her father, a firefighter would often freeze over the park to allow the children to ice skate. She attended John Rogers High School and graduated as a proud Pirate in 1956. She performed as a majorette with the Moose Lodge along with her twin sisters, Linda and Lana. Sharon began her career at Pacific Northwest Bell in 1956 right out of high school. She stayed with the telephone company during its transition to US West Telephone Company and retired in 1992. In the 35 years at the company she started as a telephone operator and retired as a translations and network services specialist. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers that provided many services to local charities. One of the activities that Sharon found enjoyable was giving back to the community. She was in the first graduating class of the Spokane Falls Community College Clown School. This gave her an outlet for the joy she brought her family and friends and many smiles to those less fortunate by performing at local care centers, elementary schools and in the Lilac Parade. Sharon married her best friend Ben Anderson in November 1962. Together they raised two children, their daughter Kelli and son Scot. The family enjoyed the outdoors, camping, traveling and hosting family and friends at the family pool where endless "slushies" were served! After retiring Sharon spent time with grandchildren, volunteering and the pleasure of friends and family. One memory that comes up frequently in thoughts of Sharon was her devotion and love for her children and grandchildren. Seeing smiles on their faces was truly her greatest joy. Sharon is survived by her husband of 49 years Ben; daughter Kelli and husband Joe Groves, grandchildren Redmond and Jillian Groves; son Scot, Wendi Dopps and their daughter Coral; her best friends, twin sisters Linda Styren and Lana Myers; brothers Jerry and Leonard Smith and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Daniel Coulston and his amazing staff for their love and commitment that went above and beyond to Sharon during the last ten plus years. They have been a true blessing. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Spokane Aids Network (SAN) as a thank you to Dr. Dan. Services will be held December 30th at 1:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home on Government Way. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Sharon, please visit our Tree Store.
