Sheryl S. Blake Obituary
Sheryl was born and raised in Spokane. Sheryl graduated from West Valley High School in 1967. Her love of horses started early and she rode and competed in the Junior Sheriff Posse. She attended Fort Wright College of the Holy Names and earned her BA degree in Education in 1971. Sheryl taught Math and Science at Havermale Junior High in Spokane. She went on to earn a BA degree in Sociology at WSU in 1973. Sheryl joined the Army in 1975 and was assigned to USARIEM (United States Army Research in Environmental Medicine) in Natick, MA. While in the Army she also pursued her Masters degree in Education at Northeastern University in Boston, receiving her degree and leaving active duty in 1978. Sheryl was in the Army Reserve until 1986. She worked as a 4-H County Extension Agent for WSU when she returned to Spokane. In 1991 Sheryl completed her BS degree in Nursing at WSU and went on to complete her Masters in nursing in 1996 from WSU. She worked at several local hospitals and nursing facilities including Sacred Heart Medical Center, the VA Medical Center, Lincoln Hospital, Group Health, and Rockwood at Hawthorne. One of Sheryl?s real passions was education and her most recent experiences teaching nursing at WSU and SCC were most rewarding. She had found her niche and loved working with the students. Sheryl?s love of horses was life long. She loved trail riding and belonged to several local riding groups including Trail Marker?s, SCOPE Mounted Patrol and Back Country Horsemen. She completed 14 years of riding the Chief Joseph Trail and was so proud of this accomplishment. Other hobbies besides her horses were a love of art, music, and travel. Sheryl is survived by her sister Betsy A. Blake of Spokane, Uncle James J. Blake of Deer Park, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father U. Sherman Blake and mother Ruth Aleen Blake. A Memorial will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park at 2:00 PM.
