Shirlee J. Simonson

June 09, 1928 - December 13, 2018

Shirlee J. Simonson Obituary Shirlee J Simonson was at home and surrounded by loved ones as she entered into rest on 12/13/18 from complications due to a fall. Born and raised in Spokane Washington, Shirlee graduated from Rogers high school in 1945. She then went on to marry the love of her life Donald Simonson in March of 1948. Exactly nine months later she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Deborah Jane. Although Shirlee and Don only had Debbi as a biological daughter they embraced many foster children. Shirlee had a heart of gold, a heart big enough to love unconditionally and a broad enough mind to embrace the differences that make each person unique. The Simonson household was a place of love, comfort, and a place many may not have called home but called them their family. There was never an empty seat during the holidays. Shirlee would make sure that even the grocery store clerk would have a place to go at Christmas. Summers were spent with family and friends at the lake and later in life with neighbors gathering on their front porch. Shirlee lived 90 years of love and happiness. Unfortunately, Shirlee lost her daughter Debbi in August 2017 to a battle with dementia and then she lost the love of her life Don to cancer in November 2017. Shirlee leaves behind step brother Dick Astelford, half sister Linda Simmons, granddaughters Jackey Starosky, Gina Dempsey, grandsons Greg and Michael Starosky and 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and so many friends. Funeral will be held at Heritage funeral home 508 N Government Way at 12:30pm on 12/26, Graveside Service to follow at Greenwood and gathering at 1604 S Koren St for dinner type appetizers and refreshments.
