Shirley S. Martin Obituary Born in Spokane to Albert and Marie Schauwecker who emigrated from Germany and preceded her in death along with her sister Barbara Schauwecker and her former husband, Charles F. Martin. Shirley had a delightful childhood growing up on Sumner Ave., living on the estate of T.J. Humbird, later owned by George F. Jewett. Her father was the resident horticulturist and the family lived in the carriage house on the estate. She attended Roosevelt, LC and Kinman Business School. Her profession was an executive secretary and she excelled in her work and enjoyed it so much she constantly upgraded her skills from manual typewriters to the computer age until retiring at 74. In 1966 Shirley and her husband moved to Long Beach, California where she lived until February of this year when she moved back to Spokane to be closer to her daughter, Anne L. French, and husband Paul, granddaughter Erin M. French and two great-grandchildren Madison and Nathan Bender whom she adored. She enjoyed her time back in her hometown, her apartment and independence. Mom and Grandma you will be eternally loved and missed by your family.
