Shirley Schoenberger

March 19, 1939 - August 20, 2014

Shirley Schoenberger Obituary Shirley went to be with her Savior August 20th, after complications with heart disease. She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Ronald George Schoenberger, two loving children, Christy Lyn Moore and Todd M. Schoenberger, and six grandchildren. Shirley was born in Bremerton, WA in 1939 to John Henry Hill and Grace Genevieve (Hunt) Hill. Shirley was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, John Edward (Jack) Hill. When she was 7 years old, Shirley and her family moved to Spokane. Her father was a carpenter, and he built their home in Spokane. The family lived in a tent for 6 months during their home's construction. Shirley attended Browne Elementary, where she was Student Body President. From there she went to North Central High School, where she was involved in home economics, debate and tennis. During her junior and senior years, Shirley was involved with the Silver Spurs dance group. She toured the United States on a bus following her senior year. During Shirley's junior and senior years at North Central, she worked part-time at the Crescent Department Store. It was at that time that she met Ron Schoenberger. On September 7, 1957, Shirley and Ron were married. Shirley worked for two years at Prudential Insurance after she and Ron married. Shirley was an active member of the North Central High School and Silver Spurs reunion committees. Actively involved in the community, Shirley served as the President of the Linwood Community Association, President of the Life Underwriter's Auxiliary, Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader, Volunteer Teacher's Aide, Spokane Civic Theater volunteer, member of the Sun Dance 9 Hole Ladies? Club, and the Liberty Lake Elections Committee. She was the first female to receive the Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Spokane East Rotary Club. Shirley was an active walker, and a member of the Striders Volkswalking club. If Shirley had a passion, it would be her garden. She loved being outdoors and loved the rewards of gardening. Shirley and Ron enjoyed traveling, with destinations including Mexico, Hawaii, New Zealand, the British Isles, Europe, Alaska and much of the United States. Shirley and Ron request that any gifts be directed towards Meals on Wheels/ Spokane or the Spokane Guild's School and Neuromuscular Center. Shirley will forever be in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home.
