August 25, 1931 - November 12, 2014

Shizuko Shields Obituary (Age 83) Shizuko, also known by friends as Sue Shields and Shi-chan, passed away at The Hospice House on November 12, 2014. She was born on August 25, 1931 in Shizuoka-ken, Japan. Shizuko moved to Spokane, WA in 1958 when she was 26 years old with her husband at the time. She became naturalized in 1963. Shizuko was loved by many. Back in the summer and fall of 1962, Shizuko was one of the first people in Spokane to have a successful cornea transplant from the eyes of two persons. Shizuko was the chef and waitress at Suki Yaki Inn for many years. She also owned her own restaurant for a while in the 1980?s called the Lotus Inn. Later on in life she was a caregiver to many at Hifumi En. She was involved in the Japanese-American citizen league. In her elder years, Shizuko became a volunteer Grandmother at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic School. Shizuko loved to play cards with friends, knit, and cook. She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother! Everyone loved her company and cooking! To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides. She was able to feel the sun from both sides every day. She is survived by her children Linda (Larry) Guillory, Theresa (Jeff) Child, Bill Shields and John Shields; grandchildren Brenda (Mike) Twete, Joseph Guillory, Nathan Child and Amanda; great-grandchildren Carter Guillory, Kiara Guillory, Aaron Twete, and Dakota Twete. She is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Ann Shields. In the end it?s not the years in your life that count, it?s the life in your years. Shizuko was blessed to have a lot of life in her years.
