Sidney Kistler

Sidney Kistler Obituary (Age 92) A lifelong Spokane resident, he passed away August 4, 2013. He was born May 23, 1921. Sidney married his childhood sweetheart June Wardner in March 1940 and continued to reside in Spokane raising their four children. Sid worked for Armour Meat Packing for over 30 years until they closed in 1970. He then was employed as a custodian for Spokane Public Schools until his retirement. In addition to his love of family, Sid's passion for music allowed him to serve as a choir director and tenor soloist for several Disciples of Christ churches, Lidgerwood Presbyterian and St. Paul Methodist. He was also involved in the Welsh Hymn Society for a number of years and was director of the Project Joy Minstrels for 17 years. Sid's love of the great hymns of the church brought great joy to all who listened. Sid was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In his later years he loved hearing about all of his extended family. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Bauer, Mercer Island, WA. his son Claude Kistler (wife Sharon), Spokane and daughter Claudia Sutherland, Boise, Idaho as well as 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Sid was preceded in death by his parents Horace S. Kistler and Viola Fuller Kistler, one brother, two sisters, his wife June Kistler and his oldest son, Gary W. Kistler. Services will be held at Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 2:00pm with private family burial to follow.
