Stanley H. Clinton Obituary
Stanley passed away August 14, 2014 in Spokane. He was born January 26, 1917 in Rice, WA to Florence (Hamilton) and Lester Clinton. Growing up in this small community introduced him to a rural lifestyle influenced his entire life. He graduated from Kettle Falls High School. He attended Washington State University and earned a Bachelor?s degree in Economics. He went on to have a successful career in the insurance business in Pullman for 33 years. He served in the Army Medical Corp and held several community positions in Pullman among which were the President of the Pullman Chamber of Commerce and the Child Welfare Committee. Though very involved in the Pullman community his passion was spending time in the mountains. He took advantage of the local natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and found great joy finding the back roads and watching the sun set on a mountain lake allowed him to share this with many friends and family. He always knew the best fishing streams and majestic mountain views along with those secret trails that he frequented.
Stanley was fortunate to have had two 35 year marriages in his lifetime. He married Loraine Nelsen in 1940 and Barbara Schmitz in 1981. He held his membership in both the Mason?s and the Shiners in high esteem. He took his civic responsibilities very seriously.
Stanley is survived by his wife Barbara (nee Schmitz), his daughters Marilyn Clinton, Kathryn Bauer, and son William Schmitz (Cynthia) and a sister Lois Page (Paul). He was fortunate to have seven beautiful grand children; Stephanie Buckles, Claire and Joe Calvert, Adam, Eryn, Kevin, and Caitlyn Schmitz and four great-grandchildren. Stanley always had a special place in his heart for his granddaughter Stephanie Buckles. She was his fishing buddy and camping partner for more than 20 years. He introduced her to the natural world he loved so much. Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Marvin and Robert along with his first wife Loraine (nee Nelsen).
In the final days of Stanley?s life he had an angel. Bernice was his care giver along with Hospice of Spokane. Bernice assisted him in transitioning with dignity and the family will always be grateful. In lieu of flowers contributions to Hospice of Spokane would be welcomed. Graveside Services will be held August 22, 2014 at 2:30pm at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
