Stephen J. Niemczyk Obituary (Age 65) Stephen J. Niemczyk passed away at his home in Spokane, Washington, on February 18, 2015. Stephen was born in Huntington, New York on January 21, 1950. He grew up in East Northport, Long Island, New York. He graduated from the University of Maryland and taught school in Breckenridge, Colorado. He later joined the City of Spokane Street Department where he served as a foreman for many years retiring in 2014 after 32 years of service. Stephen married his long-time sweetheart, Colleen, in 1999. Together Steve and Colleen enjoyed their life-long passions of bicycling and cross country skiing. Stephen was also an avid and disciplined weight lifter. Stephen is survived by his wife, Colleen M. Niemczyk; two children, Aaron Niemczyk and Nicole Niemczyk; two stepsons, Charles Durkoop and Benjamin Durkoop; mother, Virginia Niemczyk; brothers James Niemczyk, and Martin Niemczyk, sisters Carol Gagliano, Rosemary Thide, and Sue Mack; and numerous nieces and nephews. Stephen was preceded in death by his father, James Niemczyk. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 11 am at Heritage Funeral Home located at 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, Washington 99224; reception to follow immediately on location. A mass and interment will be held in Long Island, New York. Donations in Stephen?s memory to Wounded Warriors are suggested in lieu of flowers.
