Steve Schwarcz Obituary
(Age 86)
Passed away peacefully in his home on August 20, 2009. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel, in 2003. Both emigrated from Hungary in 1956, primarily as a result of Steve's blunt opinions shared aloud regarding the Communist Party's occupation of his beautiful country. A member of the Party alerted Steve he was targeted for arrest, thus initiating their plight to negotiate the dangerous underground network to flee the country with their two-year-old daughter, Ginger. They were blessed to be placed in Spokane where they made their home and added to their family with the birth of their second daughter, Mary. Steve retired from a long career with Appliance Parts and Service. Despite a broken accent, his endearing personality and huge smile overcame any language barrier. His humorous but poignant theories on life will never be forgotten by his loving family. He will be greatly missed by his daughters Ginger McGruder and Mary Ficek, his dear friend and sister-in-law Elizabeth Nyri, sons-in-law Dale and Royce, four grandchildren Mindy, Jenny, Andrew and Stephen, and two great-grandchildren. Szervusz, Papa! A memorial service was held at Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m.
