Susan Lee (Porteus) Ballinger (77) of Spokane passed away May 26, 2025 of cardiac complications. She was born April 23, 1948 and adopted by a loving couple Norbert and Clarice (Timerson) Porteous. The family lived in west Spokane until Norbert’s death in 1954 when Susan and her mother moved back to the Timerson family home in north Spokane. There they were surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins who lived close by. Susan went to Rogers High School, graduating in 1966.

She worked for the Spokesman Review for many years and later on Associated Industries and Serenity Insurance. She was married to Charles Ballinger in 1975 and later divorced. Susan enjoyed her life as a working girl. She spent her free time sewing, writing poetry and occasionally fishing with her mother. She filled her home with house plants and over the years enjoyed her beloved dogs who she adopted from the Humane Society. She made some lifelong friends whom she met at her first apartment.

Susan attended All Saints Lutheran Church for a time. Her mother preceded her in death in 1992. She is survived by numerous cousins. The family would like to thank Susan’s close friends, her wonderful neighbors and devoted caregiver who were kind, generous and so good at looking out for her. Small private memorial arrangements are pending.
