Sylvia Bernice Field

September 05, 1922 - December 09, 2016

Sylvia Bernice Field Obituary (Age 94) Our precious mother and grandmother went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 9, 2016. Sylvia Bernice Field was born in Lovejoy, Montana, on September 5, 1922. Her parents, Svend and Anna Severeide, were Norwegian immigrants who came to find a life of opportunity in a new land. She grew up on the family farm, along with her five siblings, to enjoy many wonderful experiences, one of which was to marry her sweetheart at age 17. Both were from families of deep faith in God and who practiced what they believed in their daily living. Chester and Sylvia moved to Malta, Montana, when their oldest of three daughters became of school age. Sylvia was a wonderful wife and mother and agreed with her husband to take up a new challenge and move westward with their family to seek out better opportunities for employment. It was in Colfax, Washington, where they found what was to be their home town for many years, just the right place to raise their three daughters. The next chapter of life brought them to Spokane, Washington, in 1966. Sylvia became involved with her husband, Chester (Chet), in many church activities, as well as giving of themselves to serving others, such as a half-way house for troubled teens under the leadership of Pastor Tom Starr with The Boys Ranch. Their home also was a place where missionaries were welcome to stay. Since the death of her husband in 1978, Sylvia experienced a new venture of faith with her Savior. She began working at the Evangel Book Store in Spokane and made many wonderful lasting friendships. She was an active member of The First Church of the Open Bible for many years where she was prayer leader for her Tuesday morning Bible study. Another gift she enjoyed was writing poetry expressing her love of Jesus Christ and for special occasions recognizing family and friends. Her later years have been spent at Good Samaritan Society, and we as her family are appreciative of such loving care they have given her. Our family is thankful for the loving care from Horizon Hospice given our mother/grandmother during the last two weeks of her life. Sylvia is survived by two daughters, Carol (Bill) Rubin, Spokane, WA and Varian (Russell) Bartlett, Post Falls, ID; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, and her daughter, Myrna Kaye Kneale. Her brothers Celius and Norris and sisters Minerva, Gladys and Ruth also preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Friday, December 16th at Sunset Chapel, 5200 West Wellesley, Spokane, WA 99205. Donations may be made to Union Gospel Mission in honor of Sylvia.
