Tom Lee West Obituary (Age 85) Tom L. West passed away November 4, 2017 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA. He was born March 24, 1932 in Trail Lake, MS to Comer B. West and Annie Hudson West. His early years were spent in Bolivar County, MS. He was a son of a cotton farmer and was surrounded by a large extended family, both Wests and Hudsons. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1949 and was trained as a Jet Aircraft Mechanic. He served around the world in the US, Europe, Africa and Vietnam. Tom retired from the Air Force in August of 1970. After obtaining his FAA Mechanics license, he continued to serve as a civil service employee at Fairchild AFB in Transit Maintenance for 24 years. Tom was active in Boy Scouts Troop 22, meeting at Finch Elementary School. He served as a Webelos Leader, Scout Master and Troop Chairman. He loved every minute of that time, especially the troops monthly campouts and summer camp with the boys. Tom was also a member of the Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church since 1971, where he served on various committees. He looked forward to the familys yearly excursions visiting his family in Mississippi. Each year the plan was to visit National Parks, historical places and to arrive at the destination by traveling a different route. Tom is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mable; children, David, Philip (Katherine) and Rebecca West, all of Spokane; sisters, Lois Tate and Betty (Wayne) Nicholas of Mississippi; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members both biological and spiritual. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elbert and Charles. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 1pm at Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church, 4815 N. Driscoll Blvd, Spokane, WA 99205. A private inurnment will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Union Gospel Mission.
