Valentine "Val" Ritter Obituary (Age 80) Val passed away July 24, 2010 in Post Falls, ID. He was born in Lancaster, CA on January 11, 1930 to Ralph and Eva Ritter. When he was 5 years old, Val received tin soldiers for Christmas, which began his lifelong love of all things military. After attending Antelope Valley High School he joined the Army National Guard. The whole unit was called to active duty in Korea. Such a special bond was formed between these friends and neighbors who went to war together that after 60 years they still meet up for a reunion every year. After the war ended, Val enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve where he served for many years. He then joined the Army 12th Special Forces Group. Altogether he fought for our freedoms for 32 years. During his military service he received many awards and medals, some of which include The Korean War Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, Japan Occupation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medals, Scuba Badge, Army and Marine Corps Parachute Wings, Presidential Citation, and The Bronze Star. In 1964 he met and married Sandra Jo Davis, they have one son James Valentine. Val was preceded in death by his sister Marion Humphreys, and is survived by his wife Sandy, son James, sister Bonnie Churchill, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 3:00pm at Otis Orchards Community Church, 23304 E. Wellesley.
