Verna Deane Westby (Myers)

Verna Deane was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane to Bill and Ellenore Myers. As a child, she was raised at Bill Myers’ Grocery at 4th and Washington and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1947 as a Ti-Girl majorette and usherette. Verna Deane married Larry Westby from Clayton, WA in 1948, and they had three sons, Michael, Jay, and Bill. She and Larry owned and operated Pearl Ray Resort on Deer Lake from 1971 to 1991.
She worked many jobs, including Boeing, Todd Shipyards, General Telephone, Safeco, Washington Water Power, and for the City of Spokane, where she retired in 1994 as a computer specialist. She lived an active life and enjoyed fishing, skiing, golfing, and running Bloomsday, and she traveled the world with grandchildren and friends.
Verna Deane is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry and her son Bill. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Kathy) and Jay (Cathy), three granddaughters and three great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank South Hill Village and Gentiva Hospice for their care of Verna Deane in her final days. A private graveside service for the family will be scheduled at a later date.
